How to make ‘type beat’ videos (free template included)

The ‘type beat’—an instrumental that draws inspiration from a particular producer or artist’s sound—is one of the most popular ways for budding producers to sharpen their chops, find clients to sell beats to, and get their music heard.

While we may be inclined to devote the majority of our focus on our tracks as music creators (as we should), the visual language that accompanies a ‘type beat’ is also key in getting someone to click on that final YouTube video or stay engaged on Instagram.

In the video above, iBEENART walks through some techniques for creating effective ‘type beat’ videos right within FL Studio, as well as with easy-to-use applications like CapCut. “Producers are eating and making a living off of ‘type beats,’” he says. “And then there are established artists who are putting them on their albums, as well as up-and-coming artists who are blowing up off of them. A great example is Lil Nas X. He turned a YouTube beat into a diamond record that’s everywhere—so, it’s very profitable.”
